Radon Gas Filter

Natural Radon Protection (NRP) has devised a successful means of achieving the encapsulation of radon gas.

The breakthrough, like radon gas occurred quite naturally. Advetec specialists discovered a safe way of creating a field of negative ions within a specially designed filter with which the positive ions in radon lock on to.

NRP’s filter is made up of natural products obtained from sustainable sources which are 100% environmentally friendly. The unit consists of a tubular filter with a micro fan which suck in air along with the positively charged radon gas, the positively charged ions in radon then combines with the negatively charged ions. The radon gas remains within the filter where it naturally breaks down and disappears.

As demand for housing in the UK grows the search is on for more and more fresh sites on which to build. The underlying geology of both new and existing sites occasionally gives rise to a dense gas, radon. This contains radioactive substances, usually uranium in origin.

Radon 222 is rich in alpha particles which can collect in the air spaces within houses. Recognition of this hazard has encouraged builders to install pumps and fans to disperse such accumulations. In recent years considerable research has been carried out into the potential of Advetec HMX40® fibre amended mineral material (FAMM) as an adsorbent of both heavy metal ions and radioactive particulates.

Both literature from Eastern Europe and a specially commissioned report by Professor David Read of Loughborough University confirmed that Advetec HMX40® was a very efficient adsorbent of a wide range of radioactive emissions.

Awareness & Prevention

People have been aware of radon for a long time. Sophisticated equipment and gas detectors have been around for almost as long. But detection is one thing, treatment another.
