Gordon Square Opening

We are excited to announce the official opening of Gordon Square. The square is a new public space, situated  in front of the UCL Institute of Archaeology, that has been thoughtfully transformed from a former logistics yard into a vibrant area for the community to enjoy.

The project has been a collaborative effort with University College London (UCL), the London Borough of Camden, and LDA Design, repurposing Gordon Square (north) into a valuable and dynamic community space situated .

Previously a quiet, under-utilised section of road located between the University College London and Gordon Square Park. It has been reimagined and has revitalised this area, transforming the road into a welcoming public space that offers a variety of features and amenities for the local community and visitors alike.

Key features of the newly developed Gordon Square include:

• Traffic-Free Zone: The road in front of the Institute of Archaeology has been closed to vehicular traffic, creating a safer and more pedestrian-friendly environment.
• Two-Way Cycle Lane: A dedicated two-way cycle lane has been implemented, promoting active travel and providing a safe and convenient route for cyclists travelling through the area.
• Public Space Enhancements: The space now boasts an array of plants, seating options, and bike parking facilities, making it an inviting place to relax and socialise.
• Exhibition Platform and Recreational Facilities: The area includes a small platform for exhibitions and events, as well as table tennis tables for recreational activities.
• Sustainable Design Elements: Bio-diverse planting, sustainable furniture, and features that support habitats for pollinating insects have been incorporated, emphasising the project’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

NRP’s role in this significant transformation included various aspects, such as cost consultancy, project management, traffic engineering, stakeholder liaison, and coordinating the legal agreement between UCL and the London Borough of Camden. Our comprehensive involvement ensured that the project was completed successfully and met the diverse needs of the community.

The opening of Gordon Square marks a new chapter for the area. It now provides a vibrant and functional space that enhances the urban landscape, as well as offering numerous benefits to both residents and visitors. We are proud to have contributed to a project that not only improves the aesthetic appeal of the area but also promotes sustainability and community engagement.
