Aldgate Highway

NRP supported the City of London in transforming the traffic flow on Aldgate High Street and St Botolph Street.

By shifting from a one-way to a two-way system while enhancing the public realm and pedestrian amenities.

NRP played a key role in designing the junction layouts and developing signal control methods to optimise traffic progression and improve pedestrian and cyclist safety. As the lead traffic modeller for the project, NRP conducted VISSIM and TRANSYT modelling, while overseeing strategic modelling using SATURN.

Both base and proposed models were approved through the TfL Model Auditing Process (MAP), achieved through close collaboration with TfL to ensure timely approval. The traffic element of the scheme became operational in 2016. Between July 2018 and April 2019, NRP monitored the scheme by reviewing video footage to address specific issues raised by the City of London, providing recommendations, some of which were implemented to further improve the scheme’s performance.
