Project summary
The Southbank Spine route connects some of the UK’s greatest cultural, educational, and healthcare institutions with multi-tenured neighbourhoods as well as retail and visitor destinations ranging from small creative businesses to FTSE100 companies. On top of that, the capital’s busiest rail station – Waterloo, is located in the area.
Constant growth of the area increases the pressure on a public realm and green places, and the goal of this projects is to ensure that the area remains vibrant, functional and sustainable for residents, workers, and visitors alike.
To enhance the area NRP’s proposed an approach similar to a Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) which consists of two main improvements. As a Transport Consultant, we redesigned the area to enable full access for active travel, accommodating pedestrian-friendly zones and dedicated cycling paths and removing all through motor traffic.
To further promote environment improvements the area will feature a significant public realm and greening across the corridor.
