Firth - Director

Keith’s work areas include feasibility design for large-scale highway infrastructure projects, area and corridor traffic management strategies, development transport assessments and public planning inquiries, active travel and traffic calming schemes. He has a reputation for technical excellence and innovative thinking around traffic issues, with a fully multi-modal approach to design solutions. Keith has worked for a wide variety of public and private sector clients and, in addition to work largely within central London, he has worked on projects across the UK, in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Cyprus, Turkey, Malta, Ireland, Malaysia and the Middle East. 

He is proficient in the application of TRANSYT, LinSig, TRL Junctions, VISSIM, PARAMICS, SATURN and VISUM and has practical experience of traffic design and modelling guidance and national and regional transport policies and strategies. He is highly experienced at developing schemes within London that require TfL approvals through the 3-stage traffic modelling process, design review and Road Space Performance Review Group. 

He has contributed to TV, radio and literary media, presents regularly at conferences on a variety of traffic management issues and has been a visiting lecturer at University of Bristol and for PTRC. 

In recent years, Keith has been Project Director and Technical Lead for a considerable number of projects that focus on motor vehicle traffic reduction and management policies and strategies, road space reallocation and walking, wheeling, cycling and public transport priority and public realm enhancement schemes. These have been mostly for London boroughs, developed through Healthy Streets, Liveable Neighbourhoods and Low Traffic Neighbourhood initiatives, but also as part of London’s COVID-19 recovery through the Active Travel Fund and legacy, London Streetspace Plan and Borough initiatives. This has included: 

• Traffic reduction study for City of London Transport Strategy and traffic reduction scheme at Bank Junction; 

• Liveable Neighbourhoods schemes in Camden, Westminster, Islington and Enfield; 

• Low Traffic Neighbourhood schemes in Westminster, Camden, Enfield and Haringey; 

• Westminster COVID-19 Movement Strategy, delivering temporary and permanent legacy walking, cycling and outdoor hospitality measures; 

• Peninsularisation schemes, such as Aldgate, Rotunda and St Paul’s Gyratory in City of London and Parliament Square and Strand/Aldwych in City of Westminster; 

• Reallocation of roadspace as part of major public realm and cycling infrastructure schemes, such as Tavistock Place in LB Camden, Baker Street, Bond Street, Piccadilly in City of Westminster, Enfield Town Mini-Holland. 

• Side road Zebra crossing design development and monitoring, including trials in City of Westminster and working with Transport for Wales, DfT, TfL and Active Travel England on future schemes and design guidance.
