The Leicester Square Redevelopment, an £16 million re-modeling of the central London square, was highly commended in the Pedestrian Environment category of the Local Government News awards.

The scheme, which was designed by Burns+Nice for Westminster City Council, was project managed by West One Infrastructure Services. norman rourke pryme director Mark Chandler was appointed as Supervising Officer under the NEC3 contract for West One and reported directly the City Council.

The re-development of the home of British cinema was completed on programme in July 2012 in time for the London Olympics.

Mark said: ‘The Leicester Square Redevelopment had to work in a very specific way for pedestrians. It is an iconic landmark so there was a huge responsibility to both its history and its future. We are very proud of what the project has achieved.’
